Writing a book about early 20th century women…..(1920-1940)

I am researching women of the early 20th century who contributed to society in a significant way, but have not been sufficiently recognized. I would like to pick 12 women in 12 different areas of society (the arts, writers, education, government, sports, broadcasting, etc.) I am interested in women who were born around the turn of the 20th century and achieved “success” during the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s. In the last fifty years, there has been an explosion of interest and material on women, but in the time period between the world wars there was not a lot of information. I would be open to any suggestions from readers of this blog; especially if you have the name of a woman that you would like to recommend for the publication. I am in the very initial stages of this project.
